Heather Vowles Painter & Printmaker

Appreciating the pleasure in nature is a good starting point for my painting practice, particularly whilst observing water and light. Shapes in reflections, shadows and organic forms are the basis of my prints and paintings.

Most of my artistic career has included differing forms of printmaking. Unable to abandon this practise I have incorporated this medium into my paintings on canvas. Using woodcut relief printing a surprise element transpires in the paintings.

Whether overprinted onto the painted surface or sandwiched between layers of paint the printing contributes to a unique physical result that cannot be obtained by any other means. Observing scale, colour, composition and juxtaposition are uppermost in my work, this is evident in prints and paintings alike.
